Kumbraj Technology Oven

Why Best Kumbraj Technology?

The coke ovens used by Saurashtra Fuels are vastly improved versions of the well known Kumbraj Technology coke ovens. The technology is jointly developed by Central Fuel Research Institute and M/S Brahmdeo Sinha (Hard Coke) Ltd., Jarkhand in 1987. Kumbraj Coke Ovens are of the non-recovery type where a high uniform coking rate is achieved by optimum combustion of the evolved volatiles in the closed coking chamber using pre heated primary and secondary air. The hot gasses are fed through down comers in the oven walls to pairs of well designed flues under the oven sole where more preheated air are injected at suitable points to achieve uniform and complete combustion.

The coal charge in the oven is thus heated from the top, side and bottom to achieve multi dimensional heating. The waste gasses from the flues are lead through a waste heat tunnel laid along the length of the battery on the pusher side before it is vented out a tall stack (140’-155’) without any trace of smoke. A number of batteries based on this design are operating successfully for the last 2 decades. The most recent ovens which are being built have a length of 52’, breadth12’ and coal charging capacity of 55 tones.

Extensive and thorough studies conducted on the Kumbraj Technology by premier institutions like Tata Iron & Steel, Jalandar Steel and RDCIS of SAIL and elsewhere have conclusively proved that coke produced from Kumbraj Ovens are of superior quality in physical strength and chemical properties including CRI & CSR.The superior technology of Kumbraj Ovens makes it possible to utilize a wide range of coals for coking including low-volatile coking coals.
Our technology enable us to supply different coke qualities to meet specific requirements of our customers.
